No. 4 - Fancy prayer flicking, switching

Some people hear “one-tick flick” in a guide and go no further, assuming that a completion isn’t possible without it. But in reality, it’s not as challenging as it seems, especially not if you activate a Runelite metronome.

All you need to do is click the protection prayer (or the quick prayer) twice between ticks (which are 0.6 seconds apart, 100 per minute) after initial activation. Before long, you will be able to count off ticks (and clicks) in your sleep.

While 200 clicks per minute may seem tedious, you are saving unbelievable amounts of prayer while avoiding taking massive damage. And it’s much easier to learn than you might think.

Why I say you don’t need to get fancy with flicking is because one-tick flicking is pretty much the only flicking I do in the Inferno. Everything else simply involves switching, which is also not as complicated as it might seem. The aforementioned Bulwark method makes it so I don’t need to instantly react to the spawn locations by changing prayers.

I don’t even try to save prayer against Blobs, which operate on a six-tick cycle; I simply switch prayers every third tick to avoid taking damage.

If there’s a Mager or a Ranger also present, I simply start by praying against him, and then by switching every tick. They attack on a four-tick cycle, and damage is calculated when you enter their line of sight, at which point they start their attack movement. Alternating prayers every single tick also negates all damage against Blobs. You could be facing six blobs at once, all attacking you on different ticks, and you would still take no damage.

Off-ticking can be a challenge if you get something like a Ranger/Mager stack, but not when you approach it the right way. Simply start in the middle of the pillar, activate your protection prayer against whichever one is in the back, click that monster to attack it, switch to the other prayer, and run back.

Alternatively, after attacking the monster, alternate prayers every tick and kill it. If done right, you will again take no damage and can then switch exclusively to praying against the monster in front (and saving prayer points with one-tick flicking). There are stack guides for pretty much every possible combination in the We Do Raids Discord channel as well.

It’s not super complicated, yet simply understanding ticks makes you so much more effective in any PvM situation. It’s also a massive benefit for the Fortis Colosseum, which you can manage without too much overthinking, despite its spawns generally being tougher to solve than the Inferno’s.
