Hey, learning fighting games can be intimidating, especially brand new ones. As a tag fighter, Riot's new 2XKO has even more crazy mechanics than most. Your favorite site expert will help you break it down with some handy tips for beginners.

1. Seriously, do the tutorial.

As I've mentioned previously, the tutorial does a good job of walking you through all the wild things that go on in this game. Doing the tutorial is also part of the First Steps mission. After completing the 12 steps in that mission, you unlock a token to recruit a free champion. You get a free token for downloading the game as well. You start with seven champions unlocked, so you can have nine of the 12 available champions pretty quickly.

2. Focus on two characters at first.

You'll have your hands full learning all the various mechanics of a tag fighter, as well as all the things individual characters can do. So start off with the two characters you plan to team up and learn them in and out.

Characters such as Darius, Braum, and Ahri are easy enough that even newer players will find themselves doing some powerful combos and putting some opponents on the back foot. Build a solid foundation and the building can grow tall soon enough.

3. When you get knocked down, get back up - creatively.

The philosopher Mike Tyson once said "Everyone's got a plan, until they get punched in the mouth." Good players know what they'll do when things go well, champions know what they'll do when they have a sliver of health left and the opponent is closing in.

In fighting games, even the way you stand back up has several options. There are getup attacks, which are invincible but can be blocked or parried. You can roll away or get up with a block. Whatever you do, you need to mix up your options. Unless, of course, your opponent is not reacting, and one option is working every single time. If it sounds like a lot, it is. That's why the practice is important.

4. You don't need to learn that Touch of Death combo right now.

You're going to see a bunch of ridiculous combos being hit by fighting game pros on YouTube. When you're beginning, effective is more important than pretty.

If you play Call of Duty, for example, look at combos right now the way you should look at killstreaks. There's no sense equipping the tactical nuke if you never reach the killcount necessary to unlock it. Prioritize the six-hit combo you know you can hit consistently over fishing for the once-in-a-lifetime YouTube highlight you know you can't land most of the time.

5.There's even a way to focus on one character.

One of 2XKOs most interesting features is Fuses, gameplay modifiers that provide unique benefits. One of the wildest is Juggernaut, which imbues one of your characters with enhanced abilities. I have heard so many horror stories about Juggernaut Darius. Even if you don't want to play this way online, this fuse is an excellent way to learn everything one character can bring to the table. Besides, learning how to bring back a 1v2 is a valuable skill that will help even in matches you started using two characters.
