Although Call of DUty: Modern Warfare did not launch as a free game on Xbox Game Pass — despite Activision now being owned by Microsoft — members of the service are already starting to see some of the benefits of the acquisition. The biggest benefit to date is a major discount on the recent blockbuster shooter.

As reported by Activision, Xbox Game Pass members can currently purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for just $45.59. This is $24 off the regular price of $69.99, and the biggest discount we’ve seen on the game this year.

Modern Warfare 3 has been out since November 10th. Serving as a sequel to 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 and the third entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series, the latest entry has received mixed reviews. Given the lackluster response for the game you may want to try it out first. Activision is also running a free multiplayer trial period from today through December 18 with access to six maps, four multiplayer game modes, Zombies and ground War.

While Call of Duty games sometimes see small discounts around the holidays, this sort of sale is rare and could indicate that sales for the latest game aren’t what Activision was hoping for. Or maybe this is just Xbox providing a benefit to its Game Pass subscribers, since they couldn’t get the game for free.

In any case, if you’ve waited this long for Modern Warfare 3, it’s unlikely to get any cheaper during the holiday season.

The discount also comes just shortly after Activision launch the first season of content for the game. Included in this free update were free maps, Meat, Greece and, arriving later, Rio. There’s also the return of the 2v2 game mode, Gunfight, along with the popular map Training Facility. There’s a new Warzone map, a continuation of the Zombies story, and more.
