Bethesda’s Arkane Lyon developing new Blade game
A new Marvel-inspired video game is on the way. Revealed during The Game Awards this week, Bethesda Softworks and Marvel Games are creating a new game based on the Blade comics.
Bethesda’s Blade game is being developed by Arkane Lyon, the studio behind the award-winning and critically acclaimed DEATHLOOP and Dishonored series.
The game will feature an original “mature” story that will take players to a guaranteed section of Paris in the middle of a supernatural emergency. Of course, anyone familiar with the Blade comic book series knows what to expect — vampires. These terrifying creatures have emerged from the dark and are forcing citizens to shelter inside their homes at night to wait for the sun to rise.
Blade will be a single-player adventure, so you don’t need to worry about any of those cheap games-as-a-service nickel-and-dime tactics, or any live multiplayer shenanigans. This is going to be a straight-up single-player game, hopefully similar in quality to Insomiac’s critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man series.
Arkane Lyon has a pretty good track record with their games, and DEATHLOOP was a personal favorite of mine. But both of those games were first-person, so it will be interesting to see how they approach a game in third-person. However, both games also featured the use of special abilities, something Blade himself has in the form of superhuman strength, stamina and senses. I can’t wait to see Arkane Lyon put their own spin on this with their unique game mechanics.
Blade isn’t the only Marvel-inspired game on the way. Insomniac Games, fresh off delivering Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, is also working on a new Wolverine game. EA’s Motive Studio also has a new single-player third-person Iron Man game in development.
Marvel was once king of the movie box office. Now it looks to set its mark in the video game space.
Details such as platforms or release date have not been announced.
