Sony Santa Monica dropped news at The Game Awards about upcoming DLC, God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla. It will be a free download for owners of the game, but what exactly will it entail? Well, let’s take a look.

I will first tell you to temper your enthusiasm if you are hopeful for new story content. That’s not what we will be getting. Instead, the Valhalla DLC does what Assassin’s Creed Valhalla did with its Forgotten Saga DLC with the addition of a roguelite element. The “story” will pick up after the events of the 2nd game and see Kratos travel to Valhalla with Mimir by his side.

Combat will see Kratos taking on randomized waves of enemies with pre-selected weapons and abilities. Similar to AC Valhalla’s DLC, there will be the ability to unlock permanent upgrades, should you have enough resources, that will persist through death. Armor will serve only as a cosmetic and provide no combat protection. Instead, this will come from the ability to swap out different combat perks and stat glyphs.  We will also be able to change out shields and spartan rage options in between attempts.

There will be five different difficulty options for us to choose from, so players of all levels will be able to try their hand at making their way through Valhalla. As a reminder, God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla will be a free DLC for all owners of the game when it releases for PS5 this Tuesday, December 12.

God of War Ragnarok was one of the most highly graded games upon release. Although it’s not story DLC and we’re still left to our imagination with the main game’s ending, will you be taking the chance with Valhalla’s relentless waves of enemies? Let us know what you think of the DLC below.
