Now that Naughty Dog has confirmed that The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PlayStation 5, we have official details on the release date and pricing.

The remastered version of the 2020 blockbuster sequel will arrive on January 19, with pre-orders going live on December 5 — presumably when Naughty Dog had originally intended to reveal it.

Sony hasn’t officially announced how much The Last of Us Part II Remastered will cost on its own, though we can assume $69.99, which is what Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut (the game’s own PS5 remaster) cost. Like Ghosts of Tsushima though, Sony is offered a cheaper path to upgrade for those who already own The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 4.

If you already own The Last of Us Part II on PS4, you’ll be able to upgrade to the digital version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered for just $10 at launch. This can get a little tricky if you own a disc copy of The Last of Us Part II on PS4.

While you’re still eligible for the $10 upgrade, Naughty Dog notes:

"Upgrades for disc copies of the PS4 version of the Last of Us Part II are only available if you have a PlayStation 5 console with a disc drive. Owners of PS4 disc copies must insert them into the PS5 every time they want to download or play the PS5 digital version."

This sort of upgrade requirement was a major sticking point when Sony first introduced the disc drive and digital editions of the PS5. Those who owned many of their games on disc were essentially forced to upgrade to the more expensive disc drive version in order to get these sorts of digital upgrade offers.

If you’ve already played The Last of Us Part II on PS4, there are a bunch of new features in this remastered version that could make upgrading worthwhile. We’ll likely get more details before pre-orders go live on December 5th.
