Is Cities: Skylines 2 coming to Xbox?
Cities Skylines 2, the highly anticipated city builder sim from Colossal Order, arrived on PC in October. If you’re a PC Game Pass subscriber, you can actually play the game for free on PC.
While the game was originally announced for consoles as well, it’s unfortunately still not available to play on anything other than PC. So is Cities: Skylines 2 coming to Xbox? And if so, when can you play it?
When is Cities: Skylines 2 coming to Xbox?
In September, shortly before Cities: Skylines 2 was released, publisher Paradox Interactive released a statement regarding the console versions of the game. The quick version is that the game was delayed for Xbox and PS5 and now has a new release window in “Spring 2024.”
“The additional time allows us to focus on matching the quality and performance across all platforms,” the publisher stated.
Springs months are technically defined as March, April and May, so we’ll be waiting at least five months before we can start building our cities on Xbox.
When it is released for Xbox, it will presumably be available to play through Xbox Game Pass, similar to what we see with the PC version of the game.
Cities: Skylines 2 has received generally favorable reviews from critics and currently sits at a 75 on Metacritic. While the original game set a new standard for what to expect from city builder sims, the sequel is said to improve upon many of these mechanics.
From the visuals to the actual simulation mechanics, Cities: Skylines 2 is thought to be a vast improvement over the first game. And for Xbox, it’s been built from the ground up with console players in mind, so it should feel like a seamless experience when playing on console.
“The game was designed for all platforms simultaneously, meaning it is the same code base, same UI, same achievements for all players. This allows for the same kind of experience, no matter on what device you decide to play on,” Colossoal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen previously stated.
So mark your calendars. Cities: Skylines 2 should arrive in Spring 2024.
