October is nearly here and I can’t even begin to express how excited I am for all of the games releasing this month. Fall is typically the busiest time of year for new game releases and October is shaping up to be the biggest — especially for PS5 and PS4 gamers.

If you own a PlayStation 5, you’ve obviously been counting down the days until Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s release and, thankfully, it’s almost here. The highly anticipated sequel arrives on October 20.

But before there, there are plenty of other games to enjoy, starting with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which releases October 5.

All of the games are being released for both PS5 and PS4, unless it specifically notes “PS5” next to the release only. Mirage is an open-world action adventure, so it’s definitely in the same vein as Spider-Man 2. It takes us to 9th-century Baghdad during the anarchy at Samarra, and we follow Basim Ibn Ishaq as he transitions to a member of the Assassin Brotherhood.

Another game worth keeping your eye on is Lords of the Fallen. There’s some confusion surrounding this one as there was a Lords of the Fallen released in 2014. This serves as both a soft reboot and a sequel. In terms of its story, its set over 1,000 years after the original game. 2014’s Lords of the Fallen looked promising but ultimately fell short of expectations. This upcoming reboot looks to finally deliver on the promises of a Soulslike action-RPG.

To end the month, we’ve got Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1. This compilation features remastered ports the first five main entries in the franchise: Metal Gear (1987), Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (1990), Metal Gear Solid (1998), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001), Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (2004). If you’re a Metal Gear Solid fan, this is an absolute must-play. Honestly though, with Spider-Man 2 releasing just days ahead, I don’t know where I’ll find the time to play this right away.

Below is a list of upcoming games coming to PS5 and PS4 in October 2023. I’ve gone ahead and bolded some of the “bigger” releases, but there’s a lot of smaller titles worth checking out too. All of the games listed below are coming to both PS5 and PS4, unless it specifically notes “PS5” next to it.
