Can you play Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty on PS4 or Xbox One?
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, the massive new expansion to CD Projekt Red’s sci-fi RPG, was released this week. But those of you on last-gen consoles, may not see it available for purchase.
Even though Cyberpunk 2077 was originally released across both generations of PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the latest expansion, Phantom Liberty, is not available on last-gen. That means you can’t play it on PS4 or Xbox One.
In order to play Phantom Liberty, you must have updated the original game to Patch 2.0 which is only available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The reason for this is likely due to the nature of the DLC itself.
Phantom Liberty is a massive expansion with gorgeous visuals that are unlikely able to run on last-gen systems. While it was pretty amazing that CD Projekt Red was able to get the base game playable on last-gen systems, it finally appears that we’ve reached the threshold of what those consoles are capable of.
So for now, the only way to play Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. If you do upgrade your console and want to continue your story, you are able to transfer your save across console generations. Phantom Liberty can be played with an old save or through a new save, so at this point, it’s really up to you.
While Cyberpunk 2077 has its fair share of issues at launch, it seems that it’s finally in a pristine state. While it’s still not quite what was promised to us, it’s a much more enjoyable experience and one much more in line with that initial vision.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty takes us on a high-stakes mission of espionage to save the NUSA President with the help of Solomon Reed. The DLC sends us to Dogtown, the most dangerous district of Night City, ruled by the warlord, Kurt Hansen.
