Starfield: When will Mod support come to PC?
Starfield is out in early access right now with its official launch set for September 6. Bethesda’s new IP has been often referred to as “Skyrim in space.” As such, we can probably expect to see some amazing community-driven mod support. But how long will we have to wait?
Starfield: When will Mod support come to PC?
Despite only being in early access, there are already some mods available for Starfield on PC. These are mostly texture and mesh mods though, nothing truly amazing. For the good stuff, we’ll likely have to wait a bit longer for when Bethesda releases the Creation Kit. So how long will that take?
Bethesda head of publishing Pete Hines has already confirmed that Starfield will include mod support, but it won’t be available until after the game’s release.
“Yes, there’s going to be mods; we’re going to release the creation kit [for Starfield]. But it’s post-launch.,” he said at Gamescom. When mod support does arrive, it will be offered on both PC and Xbox.
“We haven’t said when, but there’ll definitely be [mod support], as we’ve always done on PC, and you’ll be able to use mods both on PC and Xbox,” Hines added in a separate interview with Vandal.
As for when we can expect official mod support to arrive, we may be able to guess the timeline based on Bethesda’s previous games. Official mod support for the PC version of Fallout 4 arrived in April 2016, about six months after the game’s November 2015 launch. Mod support for the console versions arrived a few months later.
About a year later, Bethesda introduced the Creation Club, a place for mod creators to collaborate with Bethesda developers on official mods for Fallout 4 and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and even be paid for their work.
If it works like Fallout 4 and Skyrim, modders will likely develop content using the official mod kit for Starfield, and then release their creations into the game once they receive Bethesda’s approval. It’s unclear if Starfield will feature a Creation Club, however.
