You may be aware that Pikmin will die if you don’t gather them before the day ends. But did you know you’ll have to watch them suffer, too? I had to learn the hard way.

I’ll never forget when I left a stray Blue Pikmin to fend for itself. I looked at my map just before the day ended and saw the little guy standing far from me. I thought, “It’s fine. It’ll just lose one and have plenty more to spare.” I believed Pikmin were expendable.

I’ve never felt a stronger guilt until I saw a clip of the Pikmin getting eaten by a Downy Snarget.

After that, I swore to gather all stray Pikmin before returning to the base camp, no matter their distance from me.

That cutscene is the most alarming thing I’ve seen in Pikmin 4.

What a great way to scar unsuspecting players, Nintendo.
