Baldur’s Gate 3 Save Issues: How to Fix
Larian’s newest RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 rocketed out of Early Access yesterday to nearly instant success. According to Steamcharts, more than 400,000 people played the game during a 24-hour peak, a truly impressive figure for what’s shaping up to be a truly impressive game. Not all is fair in Faerun, however: some players have reported issues loading saves resulting in lost progress. Here’s how to fix the issue should it arise.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is an adaptation of the world-famous pen-and-paper RPG system Dungeons & Dragons, which was recently adapted into a well-received film. Players can play as a premade character or create their own, choosing from a selection of races and classes to suit their playstyle.

As reported by IGN, some Baldur’s Gate 3 players are having issues with saves, and the culprit seems to be cloud saving. According to an FAQ put out by Larian, there are a few potential fixes. First, Larian suggests shutting down third-party security programs that might be interfering with the game, or adding the game to their permitted apps lists. Problems with AVG and Avast antivirus programs have also been reported
Next, Larian says to navigate to the LevelCache folder in the game’s files and delete it, then to verify the game’s files in Steam. Larian also recommends launching the game directly from its files, rather than a client like Steam.
Another method Larian suggests is to rename the Baldur’s Gate 3 subfolder, causing it to recreate itself on launch, play the game on a different Windows account or do a clean boot of Windows.
If issues persist, it might be worthwhile to try reinstalling the game completely, though this may take a while due to its massive file size at a whopping 120 GB and change. Other than this, though, Baldur’s Gate 3 has already made a great impression and looks to be one of the best RPGs in a long time.
