Despite a save issue that is causing players to not be able to save their progress, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been off to a hot start following the full release. Baldur’s Gate 3 was in the Early Access phase for nearly 3 years and Larian Studios has finally pulled the plug on that to offer a full, much deserved release.

Just like mostly every other type of video game, video games can be much more entertaining with friends. Even if you don’t necessarily know them in real life, partying up with a friend can not only make a game more enjoyable, but it can make the game slightly easier as well. Luckily, Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a way to add allies to your party even if they are just NPCs.

How to recruit Hirelings

Not everyone is a fan of RPG video games. Some people love them, while others can’t stand them. If you have friends that have purchased Baldur’s Gate 3, you can invite them to your party and embark on this crazy journey with them. However, if none of your friends are online or none of them purchased the game, you might have to call in the help of Hirelings.

Hirelings can best be described as permanent allies that can be hired or fired whenever you please. If you do not have a party member that fits a current role in your party, you can hire a Hireling to help you out.

Before any of this is possible, you need to embark on a journey to find Withers. Withers is located in the northern end of the Dark Crypt. In this section of the Dark Crypt there will be two sets of stairs in a large room. If you take the left stairs, you will find a button at the top. Defeat the enemies that are here, and you will be able to open the sarcophagus. Inside of the sarcophagus you will be greeted by Withers. After you finish talking with Withers, he will head back to your Camp.

Now that Withers has made his way back to your Camp, you can talk to him so that he can explain to you what Hirelings are. After his spiel, you will be able to recruit Hirelings in your party as long as you have an open party slot to hire them in.

Each Hireling that you want to recruit costs 100 Gold. Once they are purchased and join your party, you can also level them up to make them a lot stronger and more useful. If at any point you want to relieve them of their duties, you can take them out of your party and play solo or invite some of your other friends to play with you.

List of all Hirelings available

  • Brinna Brightsong (Bard)
  • Danton (Druid)
  • Eldra Luthrinn  (Barbarian)
  • Jacelyn (Sorcerer)
  • Kerz (Paladin)
  • Kree Derryck (Warlock)
  • Maddala Deadeye (Rogue)
  • Sina’zith (Monk)
  • Sir Fuzzalump (Warlock)
  • Varanna Sunblossom (Fighter)
  • Ver’yll Wenkiir (Ranger)
  • Zenith Feur’sel (Cleric)

Each of the Hirelings can provide something different for your party and each of them have their pros and cons. While Hirelings won’t be as effective as having an actual friend join your game, they will still get the job done and help provide you a much-needed boost when it matters most.
