Baldur’s Gate 3 was officially released today for PC. The action role-playing gaming from Larian Studios has been in early access since 2020 but is finally out in full.

If you’re unfamiliar with the series, Baldur’s Gate is based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop RPG. Although primarily a PC-first series, various spin-offs and such have been released on consoles in the past.

The original Baldur’s Gate, released way back in 1998, was only available for PC and Mac. It’s sequel, Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn was released a couple of years later, also only for PC and Mac.

In 2001, the franchise finally made its way to consoles via Snowblind Studios’ spin-off, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. In 2004, a sequel to that was released as well for consoles and PC.

Over the years, there have been enhanced editions of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2. A remastered version of the Baldur’s Gate 2 was released for PS4 and Xbox One by Skybound Games as recently as 2019.

This brings us to today’s release of Baldur’s Gate 3. The highly anticipated game is currently available to play on PC, but will it be coming to consoles?

Is Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to PS5?

Unlike the previous Baldur’s Gate games, there are plans to release Baldur’s Gate 3 on PlayStation 5. And no, you won’t be waiting years for it. However, there is still a wait.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently scheduled to release for PS5 on September 6, 2023. In originally announcing the delayed release, Larian explained that they are launching the game “in order of platform readiness.” The studio clarified that they are targeting 60 frames-per-second for Baldur’s Gate on PS5 and, at the time, they were “close to achieving it,” but still needed some extra time.

“We don’t want to compromise on quality, and feel it would be a shame to downscale to 30fps or make other compromises to hit an arbitrary date,” the statement read.
