After a long period in Early Access, Larian’s mega-RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 is finally coming to PC in a full release tomorrow. In order to prepare players for the full release, adding a huge chunk of the story, new class options and other content, Larian has instructed players of the game’s Early Access to delete saves and uninstall the game for a fresh start on August 3. Here’s how to delete saves in Baldur’s Gate 3 to avoid any issues when it comes to full release.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an adaptation of the world-famous pen-and-paper RPG system Dungeons & Dragons, which was recently adapted into a well-received film. Developed by Larian Studios, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game fans of the series have been waiting for for over 20 years.

According to a tweet from Larian Studios, the developers recommend for all Early Access players deleting saves and uninstalling the game to reduce the chance of file conflicts when the full version ships on August 3. Larian also recommends uninstalling mods. To delete saves, players need to navigate within the game to the save file screen, where saves are separated by character. Each save should have a button that says “delete”, allowing it to be easily removed. They can be removed individually or the whole campaign can be deleted at the press of a button.

If removing the files doesn’t work, the saves can also be deleted from the game’s folders. To do this, players need to navigate to the “AppData -> Local” file path on their computer, where there should be a folder titled “Larian Studios.” Within that, the whole Baldur’s Gate 3 folder can be deleted, and the saves with it. To complete this process, players then need to disable Cloud Saves in Steam, going to the Properties tab and disabling them in the General page. The game can also be uninstalled from Steam, completing the whole process.

While losing progress is frustrating, a fresh start is warranted thanks to the massive amount of new content available in the full release.
