Normally around this time every month, Xbox users are getting ready to see which two games Microsoft is going to make free for the next month as part of the Xbox Games with Gold promotion. The Xbox Games with Gold promotion has been going on for over ten years and now we have reached the end of the line as we approach the final month of the Xbox Games with Gold promotion.

For the last time ever, Microsoft has revealed the last two free games Xbox Live Gold members will be receiving for August 2023.

Xbox Games with Gold August 2023

  • Blue Fire: (Available August 1 through August 31) (Normally $19.99)
  • Inertial Drift: (Available August 1 through August 31) (Normally $19.99)

When you look at these two games being offered for free this month, you will notice something that is out of the ordinary. You will notice that both games with be available starting on the first of the month and lasting throughout the whole entire month.

Normally the way that Xbox Games with Gold works is that one game is available from the first of the month through the end of the month. The second game is normally available from the middle of the month through the end of the month. I am assuming that since this is the last Xbox Games with Gold promotional month, they want gamers to enjoy both games free for as long as possible.

Blue Fire

Blue Fire is a 3D Platforming game about a warrior who is made up of Darkness and Light and must save the world of Penumbra from evil. Throughout the game you must explore, solve puzzles, and battle tons of crazy enemies that will hopefully help you save the day.

Inertial Drift

Inertial Drift is a throwback to 90s racing. Inertial Drift makes you feel like you are back at the arcade in the 90s putting tokens in the machine to race against your friends. Throughout the game you will need to show off your drifting skills to see if you can take drifting to the next level. Once you are done mastering the art of the single player, you can take your skill online and race against other players in multiplayer.

Both of these games sound interesting and this is your last chance to gobble up the Xbox Games with Gold promotion. Starting next month on September 14, your Xbox Live Gold membership is automatically going to turn into Xbox Game Pass Core. You don’t have to worry, Xbox Game Pass Core is the same price as Xbox Live Gold per month ($9.99 per month, $59.99 per year).

Xbox Game Pass Core grants console users access to multiplayer and also grants them a video game library of 25 games that they can play at any time. It is a much smaller library than the standard Xbox Game Pass subscription service, but 25 free games for the same price you were previously paying is a great deal. Some of the games you will be receiving through Xbox Game Pass Core are Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War 5, Doom Eternal, and so much more. Even with Xbox Live Gold going away, you will still be able to play any games previously acquired through the subscription.

In the meantime, while you wait for the final Xbox Games with Gold month to begin, you can still claim July 2023’s games that were available for free until the end of July.
