The reveal for NBA 2K24 is right around the corner, but we can now confirm there will be at least multiple editions of this year’s game available. While specific details are still to come, 2K Sports revealed that NBA legend Kobe Bryant will be featured on two different versions of NBA 2K24.

The two special editions coming this year are the NBA 2K24 Kobe Bryant Edition and the Black Mamba Edition. Artwork for these editions will pay tribute to the 18-time All-Star, five-time NBA World Champion, two-time Finals MVP, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant.

We don’t know the pricing or the contents of these two special editions, but in the past, they usually range from $100 to $150 and come with dual-gen access, Virtual Currency and other in-game bonuses such as MyCAREER Skill Boosts, Gatorade Boosts, Double XP, and various cosmetics.

Last year’s game, NBA 2K23, featured the legendary Michael Jordan on the cover of its Michael Jordan Edition and Championship Edition. This tied into the return of the Jordan Challenges.

We don’t know if there will be any sort of special mode related to Kobe Bryant’s magnificent career, but he certainly had his fair share of memorable moments in history.

For those unfamiliar, Kobe Bryant, known by many as “Black Mamba,” had an illustrious 20-year career in the NBA, all of them spent playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. He’s widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, winning five NBA championships (winning two NBA Finals MVP). He led the NBA in scoring twice in his career and ranks fourth in league all-time regular season and postseason scoring. He also won gold medals on the 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympic teams. His win-first, championship mentality was second to none. His greatness is compared only to Michael Jordan.

Bryant retired from the NBA in 2016 and died in a tragic helicopter crash in 2020. He was posthumously voted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020 and named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. His legacy was also celebrated in NBA 2K20. 2K honored Bryant with the NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition but now he will return as the cover athlete for NBA 2K24.
