Marvel Snap: The best variants from the Rise of the Phoenix season

The upcoming season of Marvel Snap known as “Rise of the Phoenix” has a lot of really cool new cards coming out but there’s also going to be a slew of new variants as well. For both the new cards AND the preexisting ones. Let’s start with the new cards and their best variants, in my opinion.

Phoenix Force

I get that there’s not a whole lot you can do with a triangular fire diety that sometimes looks like a bird but Alex is doing a lot with it. The brightness of the flames conveys power, the pose of the human inside conveys grace. There’s just a lot here and I love it.

Jean Grey

So, yeah. Artgerm is at it again here. I love Jean Grey’s green and yellow dudes. The combination of green and yellow with the red hair and flames feels like it should be cursed but it works SO WELL. And honestly, Jean Grey looking comfortable with her abilities is a mood.

Legion

Legion is a tough character to work with. He’s always depicted as a weird ugly troll doll of a boy so it is really hard to do anything interesting with him. The only reason I picked this one out as my favorite is because it is a band variant and one day I dream of filling a deck up with just band variants. But he could not have anything less to do with the Phoenix.

Echo

Echo is such an awesome character and, if you haven’t picked up a comic in 20 odd years, you might be surprised to find that Echo is actually the current host of the Phoenix and she’s sort of awesome at it. While this art doesn’t show of the Phoenix energy at all, it does somehow capture Echo’s nature which I can’t hate on because this is fantastic art.

Mirage

Mirage is such an awesome character and I’m so happy to see her getting attention because Marvel Snap has been responsible for the comics bringing more characters out of the shadows. And while I’m confused as to what Mirage has to do with the Phoenix (spoiler: nothing) I’m happy to see her here in this gorgeous art, once again, by Peach Momoko.
