This weekend I jumped back into Battlefield 2042 after the Season 5 update for about 20 hours and the game has been vastly improved.

Battlefield 2042 had a rough launch leading to a huge player drop after only a few weeks due to game-breaking bugs and a lack of playable content. Over the past few months, DICE and EA have worked tirelessly to make the game better and they have found the sweet spot I think.

To note, I played on PC and my specs are as follows:

  • B450 Strix Motherboard
  • Ryzen 5 2600x CPU
  • GTX 980ti GPU

Game modes:

  • Breakthrough

Loadout:

  • Support Class
  • Irish
  • DMR with ACOG and Red Dot
  • Ammo Crate
  • Smoke Grenade

My time with Battlefield 2042 was just as fun as with Battlefield 4

Battlefield 2042 has been greatly improved and the classes have been balanced greatly. I dabbled in the Assault and the Engineer class but ultimately, I found the Support class to fit my play style the best. The DMR was my favorite weapon coming into the Battlefield 2042 as the last Battlefield game I played was indeed Battlefield 4. I would find a nice over watch area about 80-150 meters away from the front line on defending and about 100 meters away from the line during offense. I would switch to a Red Dot from the ACOG if the assault by the enemy became rougher and get into the action providing ammo for my team mates.

The gameplay, however, is vastly improved. Running feels better, so does the crouching and the diving. The game is just as fun running and gunning as it is providing over watch and support for my team, something that sorely lacked in Battlefield 4.

However, where this game really shines is on cross play. It takes moments to find a game and servers are constantly full and the game feels so balanced and polished. Even on one game I hopped in a tank with a random player whom we had voice chat on and we dominated the the game. We got almost 75 kills between us and we broke through the enemy lines feeling like a real tank team.

Overall, Season 5 of Battlefield is living up to its name, “New Dawn,” as the balancing issues and the gameplay mechanics have been smoothed out. If have been on the fence about playing Battlefield 2042, now is the time to jump in.
