The Mortal Kombat franchise is set to receive its twelfth main installment. Mortal Kombat 1 is going to be the beginning of a new era for the fighting game franchise, one that will bring new game modes, new fatalities, and a completely new fighting system. You can experience all of this on September 19, 2023.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. However, many believe the Nintendo Switch would be a perfect fit for the game, allowing you to take the fighting experience with you on the go. But is it coming to Nintendo platform?

Is Mortal Kombat 1 coming to the Nintendo Switch?

If you are a fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise and an owner of a Nintendo Switch console, you will be happy to know that Mortal Kombat 1 will indeed be heading to the Nintendo Switch.

According to the Mortal Kombat 1 FAQ:

"“All versions of Mortal Kombat 1 are built on NetherRealm Studios technology with oversight by NetherRealm. The NetherRealm team is developing the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game. QLOC is developing the Steam and Epic Games Store versions of the game. Shiver Entertainment and Saber Interactive are developing the Nintendo Switch version of the game.”"

It comes as no surprise that Mortal Kombat 1 will be heading to the Nintendo Switch. After all, Mortal Kombat 11 also made its way to the Nintendo Switch and must have gotten decent feedback if NetherRealm saw it fit to bring the latest installment to the Switch as well.

One thing you might have noticed in the FAQ statement is that there was no talk about PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One. This makes complete sense that Mortal Kombat 1 won’t be released on last-gen consoles.

The Nintendo Switch still has tons of life available for gamers. The PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One do not. As we slowly progress through the end of 2023 and into 2024, fewer games are going to be made for the last gen consoles. They aren’t as powerful as the newer systems, and their older hardware could impact the overall quality of the experience.

The one thing that the Nintendo Switch has that no other major console has is the ability to take the console on the go. Mortal Kombat 1 is going to make for a perfect party game that you can bring to a friend’s house and battle it out with all the character the game has to offer against one another.
