3. En Garde!

Yes, the title includes the exclamation point. En Garde! is a swashbuckling adventure game starring Adalia de Volador, a dashing rogue and swordfighter with a sharp rapier and a sharper wit. Players will slash and stab their way through hordes of goons in a bid against the Count-Duke in this comedic, yet stylish action game.

En Garde! recalls classic titles like Sid Meier’s Pirates! (another exclamation point!) with its take on cinematic swordfighting. The game’s combat environments are filled to the brim with objects to make use of when dispatching clueless henchmen in the best and funniest way possible. Plus, the game has a demo that’s available now on Steam.

2. The Spirit of the Samurai

While it does seem like there are a ton of gritty samurai action games coming out soon, The Spirit of the Samurai is definitely one to watch. The game features a gorgeous stop-motion animation style that is instantly intriguing. The game also features three playable characters, including an adorable warrior cat named Chisai.

Expect delicious samurai action with this one: Intense sword battles with horrifying mythological creatures, challenging AI foes, and Metroidvania elements like explorable levels and acquirable powers.

1. Laika, Aged Through Blood

Laika, Aged Through Blood is the first “motorvania,” set in a postapocalyptic wasteland populated by heavily-armed animals. Cute? Players will traverse the hostile environment on a motorcycle, jumping, flipping and shooting their way through interconnected levels. This game was definitely a standout from the showcase, combining an intriguing gameplay concept with beautiful art direction. Also, the trailer shows a dog doing a flip while shooting an enemy. How cool is that?

There were many other games shown at the Future Games Show but these are just a couple that stand out. Let us know in the comments what games you are most excited for after watching the show.
