There are quite a few new features in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. There is a good chance that on your journey to defeat Ganondorf, you have noticed that some of Link’s heart containers have appeared to be broken. These broken hearts are one of the new features in Tears of the Kingdom and they should be fixed as soon as you possibly can.

How broken hearts work in Tears of the Kingdom

Anytime you have a negative interaction with Gloom, one of your heart containers is going to break. This can be something as simple as walking over Gloom, or something more complex as taking damage from Gloom enemies. A majority of the time, you will get broken hearts when you are down in the Depths. This is because this is where Gloom is found and most Gloom enemies. Whatever the case may be, Gloom is not going to be a friend to Link.

If you try to heal your health while you have broken hearts, you will only be able to heal the hearts that aren’t broken. This can pose a major problem as Link’s max health will slowly be degraded. Luckily, there are a variety of ways that you can fix broken hearts and make them whole once again.

How to heal broken hearts in Tears of the Kingdom

The easiest way to fix Link’s broken heart containers is to leave the Depths and travel to the surface or the sky. Once you get the fresh air of Hyrule once again, your broken hearts will repair themselves making them useful once again. While this might be the easiest method, it is not the most efficient. Unless the planned on leaving the Depths because you were finished with your adventure down there, there are more efficient ways to fix broken hearts.

If you don’t want to leave the Depths but still want to fix broken hearts, you can interact with “Lightroots.” Just heading over to any of the various Lightroots that you can find in the Depths will heal all of your broken hearts automatically. This is one of the most efficient ways to fix them because you don’t have to leave the Depths for this method.

The last option you can use to heal broken hearts is to use Sundelion as the main ingredient in the foods that you cook. Sundelions are flowers that grow at high altitudes up on the Sky Islands. Collecting these and using them for cooking certain foods will also heal broken hearts. The more Sundelions that you use, the more broken hearts they will heal. This method is one of the best because you can literally heal broken hearts no matter where you are located in the Depths and don’t have to travel out of your way to find a Lightroot by leaving the Depths altogether.

While cooking foods with Sundelions are one of the best methods due to fixing these hearts no matter where you are located, it is all the most complex. You will need to go out on a hunt for these Sundelions if you do not have any already and then you will need to cook foods with them.
