2. Rogue Trooper Redux

Before there was Gears of War, Rogue Trooper graced the PS2 and Xbox for some duck and cover shooting. Rogue Trooper is based on a graphic novel and is one of the break out games for Rebellion. This is the Redux version so it promises smoother graphics and extra bells and whistles.

The game was never long and could be finished in six hours, but the fun being had stayed with you the whole time. There is even a very limited survival mode with coop that you can try once you beat the game. If you like the idea of muscular Smurfs with space age weapons doing the same things that Marcus Phoenix can do then this is a good use of your money. Besides, I can’t think of any other duck and cover shooters on the Switch.

The Steam Deck has this no mention of compatibility, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is broken. Usually, games that do not include compatibility ratings have controller issues or runtime issues. Sometimes they work fine. YouTube and the community boards are silent about the issue. The Switch can play this fine.

1. Warface

If you ever need your Call of Duty itch scratched on a portable you only have Warface and Modern Combat 5 (unless the deal with Activision goes through). Warface is free-to-play and includes military themed arena shooting and PVE levels. I don’t see this game getting a lot of love unless kids start outgrowing Splatoon or someone accidentally thinks they are downloading Warframe.

Did I mention this game is free to play? To some that is a godsend because it is accessible. To others it is a nightmare because you will have to grind for hours just to enjoy more content. This game has its fair share of in-game sales, but the actually gameplay part is enjoyably free. The Steam community has absolutely no qualms with this game being incompatible with Steam Deck and no one on the Steam store is begging for it to be ported. Someone on YouTube found a non-Steam install to get the game to work. Are you going to work that hard to get this game to port over or will you just play Counter Strike?

The Nintendo Switch is hurting for tactical shooters and military multiplayer games. There is a lot of shovelware, but nothing is as serviceable as Warface. If you are willing to stick with it then this game will not disappoint your trigger finger.
