6. Fatal Frame/ Project Zero : Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

This is a fairly new remaster of a  game and it is strange to think that the Steam Deck did not nab it up. Fatal Frame is a very popular series. According to one report, the game does work on the portable, but the cutscenes don’t. I would say that is a deal breaker. The Switch plays it without a hitch.

Koei Tecmo’s Fatal Frame has been around since the PS2 days. Nintendo got on the bandwagon with the Wii. I remember being scared out of my mind, sleeping with the nite light on so Asian ghosts wouldn’t grab me in the night. Trying to navigate a school girl through haunted Japanese houses with a magical camera is terrifying.  This is not some clone of Resident Evil, but a genuine experience for horror fans.

Fans on the Steam page find this game Very Positive, citing that it has a great atmospheric story. This has been lauded as the scariest one in the series.

5. Data East Arcade Classics

The Data East Arcade Collection is a compilation you didn’t know you needed. The Steam Deck can handle the Capcom Arcade and the Sega Collection, but is undecided about this collection. There is not a huge demand to play Two Crude Dudes, Super Burger Time , or Joe and Mac Caveman Ninja, but Switch players don’t have to wonder. The entire Data East Classics is playable on the Switch. Also, the Switch has these much cheaper than Steam (tsk tsk).

Meanwhile, there are no YouTube videos of people trying to make it work on the Deck. The community boards on Steam don’t seem in a hurry to put it on the Deck. If you really need to get your fix of Heavy Barrel or Gate of Doom you can score it through emulation and roms (this article does not recommend theft).  The Data East collection has been living in Capcom’s shadow, offering decent beat’em ups and shooters. They might not compare to a collection that has Street Fighter or Streets of Rage, but I am confident someone is glad to have these titles ready to fire away. If anyone has word that this arcade collection works then answer in the comments.
