Nintendo Switch Online’s Sega Genesis channel has been a really cool way for people to experience not only some absolute classics but also some lesser-known titles.

Sword of Vermillion a title that falls under the “lesser known” category. Well, unless you were around when it came out. This game was actually the poster boy for Sega’s ads that centered on RPGs until the newest Phantasy Star came out.

This game did a lot of interesting stuff for an RPG of its era. Many 16-bit RPGs featured one type of gameplay, whether it be Dragon Warrior’s first-person battles, Final Fantasy’s side view, or Shining in the Darkness’s first-person exploration. But Sword of Vermillion has four different views and gameplay styles based on where you are. It really helps change things up, especially with the surprisingly detailed pixel art on some of the horrifying-looking creatures you’ll be going up against.

Sadly, Sword of Vermillion doesn’t have a lot of cheats, per say, but there are some really good exploits you can do to make this game a lot easier.

And remember, these are based on the Switch controls so the buttons will be a little different should you play the original.

Super Boost Strength and Defense

For this to work you need to get to at least level 30 or higher. Then get yourself cursed armor if you wanna glitch out your defense or a weapon for offense.

Equip it and then either pay a priest or use the item Rafael’s Stick (to save you some cash) to remove the curse and unequip the item. Then do it again. And again. And again. Keep doing it until you max out your stats and you can get to the point where you take almost no damage and take out most things in one hit.

Easy Money Quick

When visiting the city of Keltwick find the NPC named Bearwulf. When he gives you the key necessary to get to Malaga, sell it instead. The key sells for 1,000. When you go back to Bearwulf he’ll give you another key. Do this as much as you like to make as much as you need. Just remember that once you actually use the key to get to Malaga the money train pulls into the station so stock up.

Secret Mega Blast

When in Barrow, find the path in the trees that takes you to Old Man Tibor. As you head down the path stop just before the church fence disappears off the left side of the screen and use SEEK. You should find a Mega Blast item that raises your luck by 10.
