Horizon Forbidden West has received its first major DLC story expansion, Burning Shores. But for those that bought the main game, is it a free DLC?

Guerrilla’s latest adventure game just got bigger. Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, received a DLC story expansion today. Players once again reunite with protagonist Aloy to pursue sinister threats. This time, in Burning Shores, her quest takes her to the post-apocalyptic, volcanic wastes of Los Angeles.

As part of this new region, Aloy will encounter the Tenakth Clan Lands, meet new characters and enemies, and have new weapons and tools to play with. The story picks right up from where Forbidden West leaves off. In order to start it, players will need to have completed Horzion Forbidden West’s main story up to and including Singularity.

So if you’ve just wrapped up Horizon Forbidden West and are looking to expand your adventure, then Burning Shores is the logical next step. But since Horizon Forbidden West was recently added to the PS Plus library, subscribers might be wondering if the new DLC is free, or at least part of the subscription.

Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores: is it free or included in PS Plus?

Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores is a paid DLC expansion to the main game. This means that players looking to take advantage of the game’s expanded story will need to purchase the DLC expansion separately.

Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores can be bought for $19.99 from the PlayStation Store. It is available exclusively for the PlayStation 5. It’s price tag is the same as that for Horizon Zero Dawn’s DLC, Frozen Wilds, when that was first released back in 2017.
