The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom marks the menacing return of Ganondorf to the world of Hyrule. But who is the voice behind the Demon King?

Across the history of The Legend of Zelda series, the primary antagonist Ganondorf (or Ganon) has posed a threat to the world of Hyrule. Regardless of which game you started your Legend of Zelda journey, you likely encountered Ganondorf in some form.

Those that picked up Breath of the Wild met him as Calamity Ganon, a primal evil that ravaged the world of Hyrule and corrupted the entire Guardian army, turning them against their citizens. Now, with the upcoming Tears of the Kingdom, Ganondorf returns once again.

It’s unclear exactly what plans Ganondorf has for Hyrule this time, and what role he seeks to play in its destruction. Nintendo recently revealed some official artwork for the evil antagonist, giving fans a glimpse of what they’ll come fact-to-face with in the events to come.

In Tears of the Kingdom, Ganondorf will be voiced. But who will be the actor behind his evil tones?

Who voices Ganondorf in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

It was recently revealed that Matthew Mercer will be the voice actor behind Ganondorf. This will be the first time that Mercer has voiced a character in The Legend of Zelda series.

“I just got the go-ahead from Nintendo, so I can FINALLY announce my absolute pleasure to be voicing Ganondorf in the Legend of #Zelda : #TearsoftheKingdom. An immense honor that I have thrown myself into doing justice,” the actor tweeted out.

“Many of you know the weight of expectation on my shoulders for this, and I hope to do you proud. A huge thank you to @NintendoAmerica, @Nintendo And the entire Tears of the Kingdom team for entrusting me with such a badass. <3”

Mercer is well-known for his voice acting roles spanning films, video games, anime and more. Fans will likely recognise him as Levi Ackermann in the English dub of Attack on Titan, Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 6 and animated films, and Yusuke Kitagawa in Persona 5 to name but a small few.
