Where to watch and stream The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is out now in cinemas across the United States but, if you can’t make it to a movie theatre, when and where can you watch it on streaming?

A collaborative effort from Illumination, Universal Pictures and Nintendo, The Super Mario Bros. Movie offers a new take on one of gaming’s most iconic mascots. The animated film features an ensemble voice cast, including  Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black and Keegan-Michael Key.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie offers an origin story for Mario and Luigi, two Italian-American plumbers who find themselves transported to the Mushroom Kingdom ruled by Princess Peach. Much like the stories that follow the games, Princess Peach is kidnapped by Bowser who seeks to marry her. Should she refuse, Bowser plots to destroy the entire Mushroom Kingdom using a Super Star.

This isn’t the first attempt at a Super Mario Bros. movie. A live-action movie, titled Super Mario Bros., was released in 1993 to generally negative acclaim. The film stars Bob Hoskins as Mario, John Leguizamo as Luigi and Dennis Hopper as King Koopa.

But Illumination, Universal Pictures and Nintendo’s animated movie seeks to excel where the live-action one failed, with fans and critics far more content with its offerings.

If you’re unable to get out to a movie theatre to catch The Super Mario Bros. Movie, or perhaps you’re waiting to watch it again in the comfort of your own home, here’s when it’s set to hit streaming services.
