Since we’re no closer to hearing about release date for GTA 6, we put the question to AI to see if it had any insight. The results were… interesting, to say the least.

Rockstar’s iconic franchise, Grand Theft Auto, is long overdue a new entry. The last installment in the series, Grand Theft Auto V, was released in 2013, and since then fans have been clamoring for a new release. Rockstar have remained pretty quiet about a GTA 6 release, but that hasn’t stopped the speculations and supposed leaks surrounding the future game.

One of the earliest rumors suggested that the game would be released in 2020, but as we all know, the year came and went without even a whisper of a new entry. Another rumor suggested that the game would instead be released a year later, in 2021. Alas, we remain in the dark. As of now, there has been no official announcement from Rockstar Games regarding a release date for GTA 6.

In early 2021, a former employee of Rockstar Games claimed that the game was in development and would feature its first female protagonist. This was later corroborated by another industry insider who claimed that the game would be set in a modern-day Vice City. As time has gone on, we’re no closer to any official information.

So what does an AI have to say about all of this? We posed the question to ChatGPT to see if it has any better predictions on GTA 6 than the rest of us. Here’s what it said.

Of course, this isn’t surprising. How is an AI to know information that hasn’t been made public? But I suppose we were expecting more of a prediction to emerge. What it did do was pool information from previously made reports (without credit, worryingly) to summarize other predictions:

“Some reports suggest that the game may not be released until 2025 or later, while others speculate that it could be released as early as 2023.”

Again, not very exciting. But we know game development is a complex and lengthy process. For what is likely to be such a large game, and a highly anticipated one at that, the pressure is on for Rockstar to make GTA 6 a game to remember.
