Can AI Make the Best FIFA Ultimate Team Squad Possible?
By Max Mallow
FIFA Ultimate Team is the most popular game mode in EA Sports’ soccer franchise, and arguably the most popular mode in the entire sports video game genre.
Each year, players strive for the best possible team whether that’s through a Road to Glory (no money spent model) or by spending money on FIFA Points and opening packs. FIFA’s card acquisition system has been heavily criticized over the years, but that hasn’t stopped the game mode’s growth. Most players know top tier cards will be released during promotions like Team of the Year, but for newer players getting into FUT for the first time, finding the best squad can be difficult.
There are multiple avenues for sourcing squads like content creators and FUTBIN, but does ChatGPT know how to build the best squad in FIFA Ultimate Team?
Can AI Make the Best FIFA Ultimate Team Squad Possible?
We asked ChatGPT: “Make me the best FIFA Ultimate Team squad.” We were expecting ChatGPT to know the ins and outs of the FIFA Ultimate Team cycle, popular players, recent promotions, and the new Chemistry system. It seems ChatGPT is a bit out of the loop when it comes to FUT. Here’s what the AI said:
- Formation: 4-3-3 Attack
- GK: Jan Oblak
- LB: Alphonso Davies
- CB: Virgil Van Dijk
- CB: Sergio Ramos
- RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold
- CM: Kevin De Bruyne
- CM: N’Golo Kante
- CAM: Bruno Fernandes
- LW: Kylian Mbappe
- RW: Lionel Messi
- ST: Cristiano Ronaldo
Couple things to unpack here. One, this squad comes close to full Chemistry at 22/33, but Davies and Oblak suffer with zero diamonds. Players don’t have to use items on full chemistry in FIFA 23, but it’s incentivized considering players will play to their face card statistics only with no chemistry.
Two, 4-3-3 Attack is a good formation, but it’s not as popular or meta as the 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, or 4-2-2-2 in FIFA 23.
Finally, there are just better players than certain items listed by ChatGPT. Maybe when it comes to a gold squad at the beginning of the game this isn’t a bad start, but even selecting Sergio Ramos is not a good idea considering the other options out there. There are some good options here though like VVD, KDB, CR7, Mbappe, Davies and Messi.
Even if you ask ChatGPT about FIFA 23 squads, the AI says it doesn’t have knowledge about future game releases even though FIFA 23 has been out since Sept. 2022. At least ChatGPT does preface its squad that it varies based on playstyle, preference and budget. Most players listed are very expensive on the transfer market when a new FIFA title releases.
It’s best to continue using popular community sites like FUTBIN for squad building, checking out player reviews from your favorite content creator and more.
