Epic Games’ new Unreal Editor is now live in Fortnite, but is it available to use on PlayStation?

Epic Games announced the roll out of the Unreal Editor, a key feature of Unreal Engine. The tool was announced on March 22, 2023, and is set to be used by game developers to create all sorts of games for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, mobile, PC and Mac.

As part of the launch, Epic Games announced that the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) is also available as part of a public beta, used alongside the game’s existing Creative toolset. Players and creators will be able to use the new editor to create a variety of games and experiences within Fortnite, making use of the new tools and graphics capabilities.

Players can already check out some of the possible experiences of the new UEFN tool through Epic’s Picks in the Discover tab of Fortnite. These include: Deserted: Domination, Forest Guardian, and The Space Inside. These first experiences operate as tech demos for the new tool.

With so many possibilities arising with the UEFN, those keen to get their creative hands on it will likely be wondering which platforms it will be available to use on — like the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5.

Is Fortnite Unreal Editor available on PlayStation?

At the time of writing, the Unreal Editor for Fortnite is currently only available as a PC application, used for designing, developing and publishing games and experiences for Fortnite.

Right now, it seems that players are not able to use the tool directly on PlayStation consoles. However, according to Epic Games’ blog post, “UEFN works side-by-side with Fortnite’s existing Creative toolset, and teams of creators can work together across PC and console to develop and test islands in real-time.”

So, while the application might not be directly available on consoles, it could be possible to use it eventually via Fortnite Creative.
