Microsoft hasn’t given us many reasons to be excited about its Xbox Games with Gold program, but every month we continue to look forward to the next match of free games and hope they will be worthy of playing. Well, today Microsoft announced the Games with Gold lineup for February and, well, the drought continues.

Next month, Games with Gold members can look forward to For the King and Guts N Goals. While they aren’t necessarily bad games, they are both considered smaller, indie titles with not a ton of fanfare.

For the King is a strategic roleplaying game that blends tabletop and roguelike elements. After the King has been murdered, the kingdom falls into chaos. It’s now up to you and your makeshift band to solve the mystery of the murder and restore order to the realm. With procedural maps, quests, and events, each playthrough is unique and brings a brand new challenge.

For the King actually sits at an 84 on Metacritic but that’s based on just five critic reviews. It has eight user ratings for a 7.3 average. It sounds like it has potential, so perhaps it’s worth a download.

The second free game for February is Guts N Goals, an arcade-style soccer game that turns the rules upside down. Soccer balls can be hockey pucks and you can use a bat instead of your feet to score goals. Each stadium offers a unique way to play soccer and adding even more variance to the game, random mutators will change the way you play in the middle of a match. With no penalty cards, you can even temporarily KO your opponent for an advantage. There are over 30 unique heroes to play as, each with special abilities to provide an advantage on the field… or court… or whatever surface the stadium has you play on.

Guns N Goals has one score on Metacritic so I’m just going to assume not a lot of people played it upon release. It actually sounds like it has the potential to be a fun spin on sports, and it helps that you can play single-player, co-op, or multiplayer.

Although Sony has not yet announced its PS Plus lineup for February, it’s rumored that we’ll be getting OlliOlli World, Mafia Definitive Edition, Evil Dead: The Game and Destiny 2: Beyond Light.
