Mobile gaming is a bit of an estranged distant cousin to mainstream gaming. The subculture of mobile games ushered in the rise of ultra-casual gamers, in-game currency, and ad revenue. Apple removed the hassle of ads and pay-to-win with their Apple Arcade, but Google did not want to be bested. The titan came out with the Google Play Pass subscription. In a sea of subscription gaming options, what makes the Google Play Pass stand out? For one thing, it can turn your Android into a Nintendo Switch.

Let me clarify, Nintendo’s Switch is not in any danger from this subscription. Mobile gaming is still only for those who can tolerate touch screens. You won’t be getting any killer exclusives or award winning user interfaces. Only if you want to forgo a $40 game on the Nintendo Switch, skip the streaming difficulties of Game Pass, or be delighted by an indie gem that you have always wanted to play, Google Play Pass might be for you. It is $30 a year. That is like two good games on the Switch.

10. Final Fantasy VII

Yup, we are talking the original PS1 Final Fantasy VII. the blocky arms, the pre-rendered backgrounds, and the waiting your turn to attack. If you want to relive Square Enix’s epic story of a Shinra soldier trying to stop a global psychopath with a katana then you can get the whole game on the Google Play Pass. Square Enix is famous for starting their games at $30 a pop on mobile so being able to play this game for $5 a month is a win.

You can also pair it with a Bluetooth gamepad.
