Is Forspoken coming to Xbox Series X or Game Pass?
Forspoken is a new action role-playing game developed by Luminous Productions and published by Square Enix. It finally released today, January 24, 2023, and is available for PlayStation 5 and PC. The game has received mixed reviews from critics but our own reviewer praised the title, calling it “PlayStation’s next big franchise.”
As of right now, Forspoken is a PlayStation 5-console exclusive. But is there any chance it could come to Xbox Series X?
At this point, nothing official has been announced, but as this is a title published by Square Enix, there’s a chance it could eventually come to Xbox Series X. Fine print on from one of the game’s early marketing materials suggested that Forspoken is set to be a PS5 exclusive for at least two years. This would mean the earliest that the game comes to Xbox consoles is January 24, 2025. At that point, we could see the game branch out to Xbox, and possibly even Nintendo Switch (probably via the Cloud).
Should Forspoken come to Xbox Series X, there is a chance that it could arrive as part of Xbox Game Pass. Again, there’s been no official confirmation, but Square Enix titles have been featured on Xbox Game Pass in the past. Marvel’s Avengers and Octopath Traveller are among the Square Enix games that have made their way to Xbox Game Pass.
Now if you search Forspoken, you may notice that it is available for purchase on the Xbox store. Don’t read too much into this right now as it’s the PC version of the game, which you can play through Xbox on PC. For now, the only way to play Forspoken on console is on the PlayStation 5, although that could change two years from now — if you’re willing to wait that long. But, let’s be honest, in two years there’s going to be all sorts of shiny new games to play so it might be too late by then.
