New games on PS Plus Extra and Premium for December 2022

Earlier this month, subscribers to PS Plus Essential — the most basic tier of PlayStation Plus — received three free games: Divine Knockout: Founder’s Edition, Mass Effect Legendary Edition and Biomutant. Those subscribed to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, which expand the number of games available in the catalog, received some additional games on December 20th.

Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn, Far Cry Primal, Mortal Shell, Judgment, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, The Pedestrian, Evil Genius 2, Adventure Time Pirates of Enchiridion, Ben 10: Power Trip, Gigantosaurus The Game, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire – Ultimate Edition, Worms W.M.D and The Escapists 2 have all been added to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium this month. WWE 2K22 is coming on January 3.

Additionally, some classics from the PSP, PS1 and PS3 era of gaming have come to  PlayStation Plus Premium. Ridge Racer 2 (PSP), Heavenly Sword (PS3), Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus (PS1) and Pinball Heroes (PSP) are all available for PS Plus Premium members.

That’s quite a lot of games to play through. I’d definitely recommend the Far Cry games if you like action-packed first-person shooters. Far Cry 5 received an 81 on Metacritic upon release while Far Cry Primal scored a 76.

I’m also personally a big fan of the Middle Earth games. Shadow of Mordor is a 2014 action adventure based on the legendarium created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Set between the event of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings film trilogies, Shadow of Mordor follows Talion, a Gondorian Ranger who bonds with the wraith of the Elf Lord Celebrimbor, and set out to avenge the death of their loved ones. The combat in Shadow of Mordor is excellent and the game features a unique Nemesis System, which allows the non-playable characters to remember their prior actions against the player.

Shadow of War was the sequel, released in 2017, and continues the story of Talion and Celebrimbor as they forge a new Ring of Power to amass an army to fight Sauron.

All in all, it’s quite a collection of games added to the upper two tiers of PS Plus. If you’re interested in subscribing, PS Plus Premium costs $119.99 for the year while PS Plus Extra costs $99.99 for the year.
