Grand Theft Auto 6: Is GTA 6 releasing in 2023?

Despite 2023 already being jam-packed with highly anticipated games, there’s one title that could steal the thunder. I’m talking about Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar Games already confirmed earlier this year that GTA 6 is in development, but they’ve offered nothing more since then.

As we prepare to turn the calendar page on 2022 and look forward to what the new year will bring, can we expect to see GTA 6 release? Here’s what we know so far.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is in active development, as of February of this year. This means that development on the game likely started well before this announcement. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the game is close to being done.

A report from Bloomberg over the summer cited Rockstar insiders who claim that the GTA 6 launch date is still “two years away.” This would seemingly indicate a release date in late 2024 or early 2025 at the soonest.

In addition to the Bloomberg report, even Microsoft claims GTA 6 will release in 2024. In response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation for the company’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft claimed “the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released in 2024.”

It’s possible that 2023 could see the release of the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, but I wouldn’t bet on the actual game launching. This is purely speculation though.

Rockstar hasn’t officially revealed any details pertaining to the next Grand Theft Auto game, but it’s believed that it will feature the first ever main female playable character. This was seemingly confirmed in a series of leaked videos featuring test footage in what was one of the biggest data breaches in history. Among the videos was one i which the player takes on the role of both a male and a female character as part of a Bonnie and Clyde-like duo named Jason and Lucia.

While it’s unlikely that we’ll see the launch of GTA 6 in 2023, let’s hope we at least get more details.
