Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Galactic Edition brings more characters to the fun

A certified blockbuster
Kyber Bricks operate as another form of currency to your studs that can be used to upgrade abilities and make you just that much more powerful. As if using the new combo system to juggle your enemies wasn’t enough, you can increase the range of your attacks, the frequency of hearts dropping from enemies and more. This addition doesn’t seem to add too much to a game where you can already easily cut through enemies, and in fact, seems to serve as an excuse to add more to the activities required to complete the game.
One of the first things you’ll notice about Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is just the sheer amount of things to do and the size of the open world. In an age where linear progression games have begun to dwindle, Lego has positioned itself somewhere in between linear progression, and an open world outside of the regular mission layout.
Another thing to take note of in the game is just how beautiful it actually looks. Yes, this is still a Lego game and is far from the pinnacle of what your Xbox or PlayStation will be able to do in its lifetime, but it’s an achievement for the developer nonetheless. Just because the game is a licensed property guaranteed to sell regardless of its graphical prowess doesn’t mean that TT is going to be stingy. They clearly wanted to make this game gorgeous.
And it isn’t just the environments that pop with color and detail. It’s the figures themselves. No lie, I have a decent amount of Lego Star Wars figures at home, and I can barely tell the difference between the Rey figurine sitting on my shelf from the Rey figurine in the game.
One more thing
And before we finish up, what cannot go unnoticed in this game is how incredibly faithful the game is to the movies that they’re meant to replicate. Most games based off films aren’t great, in fact, most of them aren’t even good. They don’t transfer from the screen to a level format very well, and this has always been something that the Lego games have actually thrived in, but do even better here.
A good example is that I haven’t actually watched Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in probably six years. Attack of the Clones has been even longer (it’s just not a good movie). But playing these games reminded me of almost every scene in the film, and was as if I was experiencing it again. This alone makes the game more than just one that your kids will enjoy and makes it something that any fan of Star Wars will love, and brings some of that nostalgia back.
Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to bring Ahsoka to Tatooine to pick up Anakin with Qui-Gon Jin, because…why not?
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (Xbox Series X) Score: 8.5/10
There isn’t a Lego game that’s going to be more fun, make you laugh as much, and keep you as engaged as Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. With better mechanics, a gorgeous open world, and tight-level design, you won’t be able to put the controller down until you beat every film with as much excitement as the film you watched in theaters.
