Bethesda recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of Fallout and as part of that celebration, we were treated to a special behind-the-scenes look at Amazon’s upcoming television show adaptation. While the video didn’t actually feature any footage from the series, we did hear from many of the masterminds behind the project.

Bethesda Studios executive producer Todd Howard revealed that they had received pitches for Fallout movie adaptations for 10-plus years, and always rejected them because it “just wasn’t the right fit.”

But now with Amazon Studios committed and Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan on board as its head writers, there’s a ton of excitement and anticipation for the project. And while adaptations of beloved video game franchises can sometimes (almost always) backfire, often because they’ve strayed too far from the source material, fans can rest easy knowing that the upcoming Fallout show has been sticking very closely to the original visions and designs of the game.

We’ve only seen one official image of the Vault but various leaked set shots have assured us that this is going to be a faithful recreation of the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

So what do we know about Amazon’s Fallout TV series so far?

Unfortunately, not much. There’s still no release date but the series is expected to premiere in mid- to late-2023.

We also haven’t seen an actual teaser or trailer for the series besides this single Beyond The Game video. That could change soon-ish, however, as it seems Amazon and Bethesda are starting to ramp up the marketing.

As for the story, it’s obviously inspired by the Fallout video game franchise but there doesn’t seem to be based on one specific game. In the video games, October 2077 marks the beginning of the Great War, a global thermonuclear war that effectively results in the collapse of civilization and the creation of a nuclear wasteland populated by mutated creatures. Although Vaults did protect the relative few who made it to them, the less fortunate survivors on the surface turned into ghouls as a result of their exposure to radioactive fallout and thermal radiation.

As you can see from the first official image above, one of the Vaults featured in the show is Vault 33. We don’t know much about it but there are definitely some ominous details if you look closely.

We know that veteran actor Walter Goggings (Justified, The Shield) has been cast to play the lead role of a ghoul. Kyle macLachlan (Twin Peaks) also has a starring role, although we don’t quite know as who. Other cast members include Ella Purnell, Aaron Motel and Xelia Medes-Jones.

Fallout 5 is coming after Elder Scrolls 6. dark. Next

So that’s really all we know about the Fallout TV show right now, but with marketing ramping up that should hopefully change soon.
