Madden 23 – NFL Week 2 Sim – 4pm Games

Kicking off the first batch of later afternoon games, we’ve got the Falcons visiting the Rams. The Rams looked absolutely horrible in Week 1 but that was also against the Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills. They’ll look to return for champion form against a much more manageable Falcons team.

We’ve also got the Seahawks looking to start 2-0, which would be incredible given their offseason moves. And the 49ers, after their monsoon game against the Bears, look to right the ship.

Atlanta Falcons at Los Angeles Rams

Sim results: Falcons 10, Rams 14

What in the world is going on with the Los Angeles Rams offense? After getting shut down by the Bills in Week 1 (understandable), they continue to struggle against the Falcons in Week 2. Although they come away with the win, which is most important, the struggles of Matt Stafford have to be concerning.

The veteran completes 19-35 for 264 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Kupp is the main beneficiary, catching 7 passes for 133 yards and 1 touchdown. Allen Robinson continues to disappoint with just 25 yards on 2 catches.

For the Falcons, there’s not much to be excited for. Their two biggest weapons, Kyle Pitts (3 rec., 32 yards) and Drake London (3 rec., 37 yards) have a quiet day.

Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers

Sim results: Seahawks 20, 49ers17

Can you imagine the Seahawks starting the season 2-0 after trading their Super Bowl-caliber quarterback and starting Geno Smith? Beating the Broncos and now the 49ers? What a storyline that would be.

In the Madden sim, Geno Smith has another impressive performance, completing 21-34 for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns. D.K. Metcalf destroys the 49ers secondary with 6 receptions for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns. And Noah Fant flashes some signs of a breakout as he catches 6 passes for 79 yards.

On the flip side, the 49ers continue to struggle on offense and if Trey Lance struggles again, we’ll likely hear calls for the coaches to go to Jimmy Garoppolo. In the sim, Trey Lance throws for a pedestrian 89.2 QB rating (21-37, 294 yards, 2 TDs, 1 interception). It’s not a horrible stat line, but the 49ers need more from him.
