Madden 23: Our Week 1, 2022 NFL simulation results

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans

Sim results: Colts 27, Texans 24

Matt Ryan looks sharp in his Colts debut, completing 22-29 for 254 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Last year’s league leading rusher Jonathan Taylor carries the ball 17 times for 84 yards. Davis Mills has a solid game (21-31, 293 yards, 2 TDs) but it’s not enough to overcome a bad Texans defense.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins

Sim results: Patriots 23, Dolphins 17

Mac Jones and the Patriots’ offensive struggles from preseason carry into Week 1, but the Patriots still come away with the win. Jones goes 16-30 for 194 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. On the flip side, Tua Tagovailoa completes 15 of 26 passes for 243 yards and two TDs. Both Tyreek Hill (5 rec., 100 yards) and Jaylen Waddle (3 rec., 76 yards) catch a touchdown pass.

Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets

Sim results: Ravens 20, Jets 13

With Zach Wilson out with injury, Joe Flacco gets the Week 1 start and does absolutely nothing with the opportunity, completing 42 percent of his passes and throwing one touchdown and one interception. Lamar Jackson also struggles in the pass game (22-27, 230 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int.) but adds 86 yards on the ground.

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons

Sim results: Saints 24, Falcons 27

The Atlanta Falcons enter the season appearing to be in rebuild mode and turn the reigns over to the Marcus Mariota. The veteran quarterback does just enough (18-28, 256 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int., 1 Ru. TD), combining his arm and legs, to help the Falcons to their first win of the season. Winston (21-34, 257 yards, 2 TDs) looks sharp as well. Michael Thomas does play (which we’re unsure if he’ll do in real life) but catches just one pass for 22 yards.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Washington Commanders

Sim results: Jaguars 17, Commanders 34

Carson Wentz quiets the critics as he goes 20-38 for 267 yards and three Touchdowns. His favorite target is Logan Thomas, who racks up 95 yards and catches a pair of touchdowns. Trevor Lawrence continues to struggle in the NFL, throwing for 291 yards but also two interceptions. The simulation had James Robinson as the starting running back which likely won’t be the case, but the stat line probably won’t be that much different with Travis Etienne Jr. (19 carries, 64 yards).
