Summer is finally over! Well, almost. I know it’s not officially over, but once that calendar turns to September, it’s Pumpkin Spice season for me. I also associate the end of summer with the time when the video game industry starts to ramp up its big releases. In the case of PlayStation, we’ve got The Last of Us Part I coming next month.

For many longtime PlayStation gamers, the remake of The Last of Us, even with all the graphical and gameplay improvements, doesn’t feel like a true blockbuster release. After all, we’ve played this game on PS3 and then again on PS4. But really, it’s been nearly a decade since this game launched on PS3 and technology has come a long way since then.

The game has been completely rebuilt from the ground up “using Naughty Dog’s latest PS5 engine technology with advanced visual fidelity.” In other words, the game is prettier than ever, which is saying a lot since The Last of Us was revolutionary when it launched back in 2013. Naughty Dog has also improved the game’s controls and expanded the accessibility options. If you’ve already played The Last of Us, then modernized gameplay mechanics and improved visuals may not be enough to draw you back in. But if you never got around to playing the original, this is definitely a must-play next month.

There’s quite a few titles to get excited about and, for me personally, Temtem is one of them. This is basically Pokemon but on consoles other than Nintendo. It’s a massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure in which you explore the Airborne Archipelago while catching Temtem, battling other tamers and customizing your house.

As a sports fan, I’m also looking forward to both NBA 2K23 and FIFA 23. Both games should see noticeable improvements this year on PlayStation 5. FIFA 23 will harness the power of HyperMotion2 Technology which aims to set a new standard in realistic and immersive gameplay. NBA 2K23 will also see the return of The Jordan Challenge.

Tunic is another must-play game. The indie action-adventure sees you explore a fantasy world as an anthropomorphic fox in gameplay similar to that of The Legend of Zelda. Tunic was originally released on Xbox and PC earlier this year and received glowing reviews. Now PlayStation gamers will finally get to experience it.
