Madden 23: Best teams to rebuild in Franchise mode

Madden 23: Best teams to rebuild in Franchise mode

Detroit Lions (78 OVR, 75 OFF, 72 DEF, 71 ST)

You know, it’s funny. Each year there are typically four or five teams that stand out as desperately needing a rebuild. But a lot of the “bad” teams this year have quite a bit of talent at the skill positions on offense but lack a legitimate franchise quarterback. The Detroit Lions are a perfect example of this.

The Lions have quite a few weapons on offense. The backfield is led by 3rd year back D’Andre Swift. A fantasy stud, Swift is a weapon to be utilized in both the run game and pass game. If you’re the type of player who loves putting up stats with the running back, the Lions are your team.

There’s also no shortage of weapons at receiver, although it’ll be up to you to develop the young guys like Amon-Ra St. Brown (78 OVR, 87 SPD, 94 CTH). The 22-year-old had a solid rookie campaign, catching 90 passes for 912 yards and five touchdowns. He’s complemented by DJ Chark Jr. (78 OVR, 94 SPD, 84 CTH). It’ll be up to you to develop this young talent into the league’s next dynamic receiving duo.

And if all else fails, you’ve got tight end T.J. Hockenson. The 25-year-old is one of the top 10 tight ends in the league and checks into Madden 23 as the best-rated Lions player with an 89 overall and 95 catch rating.

So what exactly is the rebuild here? Well, that would be Jared Goff. The former No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft is rated just a 72 overall. Unfortunately, he signed a four-year deal with the Lions, so you’re stuck with him for a bit, unless you can get creative as GM.

Besides quarterback, the Lions biggest weakness is defense. I personally don’t like drafting defense in Madden, so this team isn’t my preferred rebuild. But if you’re a defensive-minded player, then there are holes all over that need to be filled.

The Lions’ best-rated defensive player in Madden 23 is strong safety Deshon Elliot, and he’s just a 78 overall. They’ve also got Mike Hughes at cornerback. He’s also a 78 overall rating. I’d say the biggest need with this team is the defensive line where the best-rated player is right end Michael Brockers, just a 73 overall.

The Lions aren’t my ideal rebuild, but they could be fun if you like to go after defense. They’ve got young skill players, so just find a franchise quarterback to lead them. Easier said than done.
