Colin Kaepernick is not in Madden 23. At least not at launch anyway.
Although the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback is still technically a free agent, he’s not listed in Madden 23’s free agent pool. It’s possible this could change in the future with an update, but as of right now, there’s no way to play as colin Kaepernick in your franchise.
Colin Kaepernick technically hasn’t played on an NFL team since 2016, which also happened to be the year he knelt during the national anthem in protest of police brutality and racial inequality in the United States. Following his departure from the 49ers in 2016, Kaepernick went unsigned through the 2017 offseason, spurring allegations that he was being blackballed by the league. Although the NFL never formally admitted to blackballing Kaepernick, the league did ultimately reach a financial settlement with him.
But despite not having been on an NFL roster since 2016, Kaepernick is still technically considered a free agent in the NFL. He’s even had auditions with NFL teams as recently as this offseason when he worked out for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Kaepernick hadn’t been included in any Madden games since 2017’s Madden NFL 18, that is until EA added him into 2020’s Madden NFL via a post-launch update. His addition into the game was not without controversy, however, as he was given a rather impressive 81 overall rating, making him one of the top 15 quarterbacks in the game.
Kaepernick was also featured in last year’s game as a free agent. He returned with an 81 overall rating as well.
But so far, at least at the launch of Madden 23, Colin Kaepernick is not in the game. Again, this could change in the future, but right now the best free agent quarterback you’ll find is a 67 overall Cam Newton.
Although I haven’t been able to confirm this, it’s possible that Colin Kaepernick will be represented in Madden 23 as an Ultimate Team player. If given the chance, would you want to play as Colin Kaepernick in Madden NFL 23?
