2022 has been quite the year for gaming. We got the amazing Elden Ring, the highly anticipated sequel to Dying Light, and Pokémon expanded into open-world RPG status with Pokémon Legends: Arceus. But just like those commercials, you see on paid programming: “Wait! There’s more.”

Even though we won’t be getting Starfield this year, among other games that have suffered the fate of many games before them, 2022 still has an incredible slate of games coming up later this year. If you’re having a hard time figuring out which games you should be paying attention to, don’t worry, we got you covered.

Open-world RPGs are all the rage these days, and there’s more to come. Games are also taking more cinematic approaches to how they present their titles, continuing the trend of video games being the most interactive form of entertainment on the planet.

So let’s take a look at the five most exciting titles yet to be released this year. And before you ask: yes, making this list was incredibly difficult, and concessions were made. If you’re mad, get angry in the comments, I feed off your anger and I am very hungry.

Saints Row (August 23) – Xbox & PlayStation

Saints Row decided to skip the entire last generation of consoles, and hasn’t seen a release since 2013’s Saints Row IV. The new Saints Row promises to be far more chaotic than its predecessors, and the team working on it appears to be extremely passionate about the project.

Like many games this year, the title saw a delay, pushing back from its original release date of February 25th this year to August 23rd.

The title also promises to move away from what appeared to be a chaotically unbalanced tone from both Saints Row the Third and Saints Row IV, and go back to its humorously serious tone seen in Saints Row 2. GameSpot recently played a preview of the title’s opening sequence and loved the open world.

Response to the reboot has been mixed with fans, however, with some believing a new entry is long overdue, and others feeling that it may be unnecessary. That remains to be seen, but I know that I’m thoroughly excited to get back to building my criminal empire and blowing things up in an over-the-top way.

You can play Saints Row in less than a month on August 23rd.
