Prime Gaming revealed its next batch of free games for the month of August. Six free games are headed our way and you’ll be able to claim them starting August 1.

Headlining the list is StarCraft: Remastered, a remaster of one of the best real-time strategy games of all time. Released in 2017, StarCraft: Remastered takes the beloved RTS that we all spent countless hours playing in 1998 and brings it up to today’s standards with ultra high-definition graphics, re-recorded audio and Blizzard’s modern suite of multiplayer offerings, including improved multiplayer matchmaking and social integration with other Blizzard games. Other than that, it’s the same gameplay we all know and love.

StarCraft: Remastered contains content from both the base game as well as its expansion Brood War. StarCraft was one of the most beloved games from my childhood and to have the opportunity to play it again remastered, for free through Prime Gaming, is just simply amazing.

But wait, there’s more! Five other games are coming our way in August through Prime Gaming: Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders, Beasts of Maravilla Island, Recompile, ScourgeBringer and Family Mysteries: Poisonous Promises. These games are clearly much smaller in scope but part of the joy of Prime Gaming is getting the opportunity to play games you otherwise may not have considered.

Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders is actually a classic graphic adventure game from Lucasfilm Games back in 1998. Ready for this plot? After Space Aliens have built a machine that’s reducing everyone’s IQ, it’s up to Zak McKracken, a reporter for the disreputable National Inquisitor, to stop them. Ah, things were so much simpler in the 90s.

ScourgeBringer, on the other hand, is a fast-paced free-moving roguelite platformer in which you must guide Kyhra through the unknown and defeat ancient machines guarding the seal of her past. ScourgeBringer was released in 2020 but has that old-school platformer charm.

Beasts of Maravilla Island is a little bit of a slower-paced game. In it, you play as a young wildlife photographer who traverses the magical ecosystems of Maravilla Island to discover extraordinary creatures, learn their behaviors, and capture stunning photos of them.

Recompile is an atmospheric, Metroidvania hacking adventure, while Family Mysteries: Poisonous Promises is a hidden object game in which you play as the police trying to solve a case.

Overall, August seems like a solid month for Prime Gaming which is finally starting to come into its own. It was revealed that the number of Prime members using Prime Gaming worldwide has grown more than 120%. Last year, more than 420 million offers were claimed by Prime members, including more than 80 million free games. Prime Gaming is one of the industry’s best deals and a completely free bonus for Amazon Prime members.
