Madden 23 ratings: Predicting the Top 5 Wide Receivers
Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins
Former Kansas City Chiefs playmaker Tyreek Hill is as explosive as it gets. In his six seasons in the NFL, Hill has only caught 100-plus passes in one of them; however, he’s topped the 1,000-yard mark in four of them. That was last season.
Hill began last year with a 98 overall rating but dropped to a 96 overall by the Super Bowl. How could he put up his highest career receptions, 1,000-plus yards, and still drop in overall?
Although he was third in the league in receptions, the drop in his rating was likely due to his yards per catch. Last season, he averaged just 11.2 yards per catch, the lowest since his rookie year. To put this into context, in 2020, he averaged 14.7 YPC and in 2019 he averaged 14.8. He also only had 9 touchdown receptions, which is slightly fewer than his career average.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Tyreek Hill now that he’s signed with the Miami Dolphins. I think we can all agree Tua Tagovailoa is not in the same category as Patrick Mahomes, but what makes Hill special is his ability to make big plays with his legs after the catch. If Tua can deliver him the ball timely, Hill can use his speed to break the play open.
Tyreek Hill was the fastest wide receiver in Madden 22 with a 99 Speed rating. Despite his overall dropping, he maintained that perfect Speed rating. I think he maintains his Speed but his overall sees a small drop based on the uncertainty surrounding his new team. Although with Jaylen Waddle on the other side, it could open up more opportunities for Hill.
Madden 23 Rating Prediction: 95 Overall
As you can see, I don’t believe there will be many shake-ups in ratings at the wide receiver position in Madden 23 — at least not at launch. It will be interesting to see how Adams and Hill fare on different teams and if they can keep up the kind of production we’re used to seeing from them on Sundays. If not, they could easily see their overall ratings drop with weekly updates. That would open up the chance for the younger generation of receivers, like Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, to rise in the rankings.
Madden 23 is set to launch on August 19, 2022. EA should begin to release the official player ratings later this month.
