Madden 23 ratings: Predicting the Top 5 Running Backs
Christian McCaffrey (Carolina Panthers)
Of the five running backs I have on this list, I can see this one causing the most controversy. How can a guy who has played in only 10 games in the past two seasons possibly be a top five running back in Madden 23?
Well, in those games he’s played, he’s proven to be incredibly effective. Christian McCaffrey is, without a doubt, the best dual threat running back in the NFL. As Pro Football Network notes:
"Only four RBs in the history of the NFL have recorded 100-reception seasons — and Christian McCaffrey has done it twice!"
In 2018, McCaffrey rushed 219 times for 1,098 yards and 7 rushing touchdowns and caught107 passes for 867 yards and 6 receiving touchdowns. In 2019, his production increased even more with 287 carries for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns and 116 receptions for 1,005 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Unfortunately, his career has been derailed by injuries. He played in just three games in 2020 and seven in 2021. But in those seven games last year, McCafffrey rushed for 442 yards and caught 37 passes for 343 yards.
In other words, when healthy, he’s one of the most productive running backs in the league. He’s electrifying on the field. But his problem has been staying on the field.
In Madden, that doesn’t really matter. You can always turn injuries off, which is why he should be rated purely on his production when healthy. And when healthy, he’s one of the best.
Rating Prediction: 94 Overall
