Nick Chubb (Cleveland Browns)

The running back position is loaded with talent, so these next couple of guys would literally be interchangeable in the rankings. I’ve got Nick Chubb as the third-best running back in Madden 23 (although it’s understandable if you believe a guy like Dalvin Cook or Christian McCaffrey belongs here).

Chubb entered the league in 2018 and has since been a force to be reckoned with. He’s one of the most consistent rushers in the league, topping the 1,000-yard mark in three of the four seasons he’s been a starter.

Last year, he played in 14 games and rushed for 1,259 yards and 8 touchdowns. In the prior year, he ran for 1,067 yards and 12 touchdowns. Although his best season was arguably 2019 (1,495 yards, 8 touchdowns).

But it’s important not to focus too much on stats with Chubb as he’s had to share some time with a very talented backfield that includes the likes of Kareem Hunt and D’Ernest Johnson. To get a good feel for his production, you need to look at yards per carry. In 2021, Chubb rushed for 5.5 yards per carry, the same as Jonathan Taylor, although on 100 fewer carries. Still, he had the second-highest yard per carry average when looking at running backs with over 200 attempts.

So while Chubb may not get the same number of attempts as some of the upper echelon running backs, he’s just as productive as them when given the opportunity. It’s also important to note that he’s producing these kinds of numbers without a legitimate passing game.
