Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

There’s a bit of a drop-off from Brady, Mahomes and Rodgers and the rest of the pack. Allen is on the cusp of being a top-three quarterback. Then after him, it’s kind of a crap shoot. Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow are pretty even, in terms of talent. Dak Prescott always feels like he’s on the edge of a breakout season. And Lamar Jackson is one of the most unique playmakers in the league, and definitely, a better quarterback than he’s given credit for.

Ultimately, I give the edge to Justin Herbert. He may not have the athletic ability as some of the guys I mentioned. And he may not run as much as them, but he’s the most talented natural passer. His arm is one of the strongest in the league.

Herbert threw for 5,014 last season and was third in the league with 38 touchdowns. He did throw 15 interceptions, which he needs to cut down on, but he’s only just 24 years old. He’s not even remotely close to his ceiling yet.

EA didn’t give Herbert a lot of love last year as he finished Madden 22 with just a  84 overall rating. For comparison, that’s lower than Russell Wilson (88), Joe Burrow (86), Kyler Murray (86), Ryan Tannehill (85), and tied with Deshaun Watson (84). That’s criminally low.

Burrow tends to stand out a little more because he’s got the more talented team around him, but I think Herbert is actually the better quarterback. Really, I think all of these guys will rate similarly in Madden 23, but for the sake of this list, I’m giving Herbert the edge.

Rating Prediction: 89 Overall
