The Hydro tide just doesn’t stop in Genshin Impact. Following the already powerful Ayato, we already have another great Hydro character in Yelan. Here are the five best characters for Yelan teams to make the most out of her.

5. Yunjin
Yunjin and Yelan share a unique mechanic: they both get better the more elementally diverse your team is. Yunjin’s Elemental Burst, Cliffbreaker’s Banner, gives your team a Normal Attack buff that gets stronger based on how many different elements you have.
Most of Yelan’s kit is HP based, and Yelan gains an HP buff based on how many different elements you have, too. Her Elemental Burst, Depth-Clarion Dice, performs a coordinated attack with your active character’s Normal Attacks. Combined with Yunjin’s buff, your auto-attacks are sure to pack a big punch.
4. Yoimiya
Speaking of auto-attacks, Yelan is at her best when she’s providing off-field Hydro application. Yoimiya’s Pyro-infused Normal Attacks get stronger the more shots you fire, and Yelan herself has a Passive ability that increases damage over time during the duration of the Exquisite Throw effect from her Burst.
3. Ayaka
Yelan’s Elemental Skill, Lingering Lifeline, has the minor but extremely useful ability to group enemies. When the Lifeline explodes, enemies caught in it will be pushed together, potentially grouping them up close enough for Ayaka’s Cryo-infused Charged Attack to hit them all at once.

2. Xingqiu
They both serve similar roles, so at first glance it may seem strange you’d want both Yelan and Xingqiu on the same team. With both of them firing their Elemental Bursts, you’ll be producing a steady stream of Hydro particles to fuel them. This allows less Energy Recharge in either of the builds.
Notably, this opens up Xingqiu to use a more offensive, attack based weapon instead of the Sacrificial Sword he’s usually paired with. Double Hydro applications also ensure you’re clearing Hydro with another reacting element, helping you tighten up and optimize rotations when using Yoimiya or our choice for the best character to pair with Yelan.
1. Hu Tao
Much like how Yelan pairs well with Yoimiya, she works even better with Hu Tao. As the game’s premier Pyro attacker, Hu Tao benefits from all of Yelan’s kit.
